David B. Portnoy
My research mainly focuses on applying sound social psychological theories of attitudes and judgment and decision-making to measuring and changing health behavior. Specifically, I am interested in the reasons for getting medical testing (such as cancer screening), risk perception in genetic testing, how changing temporal focus can motivate actions toward a long-term health goal, and the relation between implicit attitudes and high-risk sexual behavior.
I have additional research interests in the use of technology, including virtual reality and computer-based behavioral health interventions, for the measurement of health attitudes and behaviors as well as for health behavior change.
